There are many common Indigo Children characteristics that have been identified.  While not all Indigo Kids exhibit all these traits you will find a high proportion do.  Below you can find the common Indigo Children traits organized into categories.

Disposition of Indigo Children

One trait that everyone observes in indigo children is their high level of belief in themselves.  Indigo kids typically don’t need to be reminded of their self-worth.  In fact, they often tell their parents of their own value.

Indigo Children typically have a sense of status and dignity.  It is not uncommon for an Indigo Child to have a strong belief of their right to be here and can be confused when they learn that others don’t share the same belief.

In addition to having a high sense of personal value, or perhaps even because of it, Indigo Children are very at home living in the moment.  Where others are only able to talk about ideals, Indigo Children are able to manifest them – they are able to be them.

The Indigo Child and Attitude Towards Authority

Another of the Indigo Children characteristics is that they do not appreciate strict, rigid authority.  This is perceived to be one of the main factors contributing to their being viewed as “problem children”.  It isn’t that they are disrespectful – they just don’t like absolute authority without explanation or choice.

Furthermore, Indigo Kids do not respond to many of the traditional parenting techniques such as subtle manipulation or guilt.  In fact, they easily see through these techniques and turn them back on their parents or other authority figures.

Structure and Order

One of the Indigo Child characteristics that is commonly observed is that they don’t appreciate structured systems and ritual-oriented behavior that doesn’t require creative thought.  In fact, there are things they actively avoid such as waiting in line or overly formal social situations.

Because of their disdain for structured systems many people have difficulty relating to Indigos.  This is often the result of other people having built-in beliefs and rules that they unconsciously follow.

Creativity and Innovation

In addition to the previous Indigo Children traits, they are creative and are good at creative expression.  They are also good at thinking outside the box and finding new, and often better, ways of doing things.  This further supports their reputation as ‘rebels’ and ‘nonconformists’ as they often operate outside of the established system.

Indigo Kids and Social Interaction

When among other Indigo Children they typically connect and get along fine.  However, if there aren’t others of like consciousness around them they can be withdrawn and are often perceived as antisocial.  In these situations they typically turn inward and are left feeling misunderstood.  Of the Indigo Children characteristics, this one often leads to difficulties in their social lives and can lead to difficulties in school.

Characteristics of Indigo Children’s Behavior

Indigo Children are very spontaneous and energetic.  They are also easily excitable – often for reasons not immediately apparent.  This trait often leads to a diagnosis of ADD or ADHD.  In such cases this can have a very negative effect resulting in an incorrect understanding of the child and a label that leads others to further misunderstand them.

Indigo Children Physical Characteristics

There is one ‘physical’ trait associated with all Indigo Children which is, in fact, the source of their name.  Those who have the ability to see auras say these children have an Indigo colored aura around them.  This characteristic aura has never been seen before – at least not on the scale that it is seen today.

In addition to their aura, many people who work with Indigo Kids often comment on their eyes.  They say they have wise eyes.  And through their eyes they can see the ‘old souls’ living within.
